For some couples it happens quickly and catches them unaware but for other couples it takes a while to happen and there is time for more planning. Many couples find making an appointment prior to getting pregnant allows them to find out all the options that will be available to them in the area where they live. This appointment can be as a couple or just the woman may wish to come. A pre-pregnancy appointment gives you time to find out what you can do to make sure you are in optimal health to provide the best environment for a baby to grow in. Referral to your doctor will be arranged if there are any health concerns that they can assist with but in many instances referral to other health professionals such as naturopaths, chiropractors, dieticians etc. may be more relevant.
